Medications
I will need written permission to administer any prescription or non-prescription medications to your child.
Illnesses
When your child is not feeling well, you should carefully consider if s/he would be able to tolerate a day in childcare and/or if the symptoms are contagious. The childcare day is very similar to the varied stresses of your workday. Your child is in a stimulating, social and active group environment that may not give your child the rest or quiet they need to recover. Children in childcare are exposed to frequent illnesses but we need to minimize the exposure to contagious symptoms whenever possible. While I realize it’s a challenge to miss work for your sick child, it’s important to consider that the spread of an illness affects other families. Accordingly, for the benefit of all involved in the child care home, the following policies will be strictly enforced:
1. Children who have exhibited any symptoms of infectious illness are likely to be contagious and should remain at home. The child can return to day care after a 24 hour time period of no further symptoms or a 24-hour time period of prescribed antibiotics. Examples of associated symptoms include, but are not limited to, severe cold symptoms such as a profusely runny nose or severe coughing, fever of 100 degrees (auxiliary) or over, diarrhea that is frequent or not contained, vomiting, unexplained rash, impetigo, pinkeye, yellowish skin/eyes, severe sore throat, and abnormal breathing.
2. I reserve the right to determine whether a mildly ill child should remain in the childcare.
3. I am willing to accept a child with mild illness only if fever is not present, they are able to fully participate in activities and they do not have contagious symptoms such as profusely runny nose or severe cough. Remember that when you give a morning dose of Tylenol or Motrin to reduce a fever that your child needs to stay home.
4. Mildly ill children could require additional care that I’m unable to give. A profusely runny nose or excessive crying may result in a need for your child to be picked up by parent. Your child may be fine once you are one on one at home, but keep in mind that there are several other children in my care that need my attention.
5. If your child becomes ill or injured during the day you will be promptly notified. You are to make arrangements to pick up your child immediately within the hour. In order to reduce exposure and risk to other children in the day care, the sick child will be isolated from the other children until the parent arrives. If you cannot be reached, the person designated as the Emergency Contact will be notified.
6. You must notify me within 24 hours of a diagnosis of a contagious illness or parasitic infection so that I can notify the other parents of children. Children with parasitic infections (lice, pin worms, ring worm, etc.) must remain at home. Before returning to childcare, the child must have completed treatment and be symptom free.
Parent Responsibilities
1. You are responsible to provide some items for your child. Each child has his/her
own tote box for their belongings. These items are to be left in their tote:
______diapers, ointments or creams
______complete change of clothes (including socks) appropriate for the weather
______other_____________________________________________
2. During colder months we will be going outside as much as possible. PLEASE bring
snow pants, boots, hats, and mittens for your child to wear outside.
3. Please leave your child’s belongings at home. This includes blankets, toys, and any
other items. This causes too many problems during the day. There will be special
occasions when your child can bring items from home to share.
4. Please let the provider know when you will be away from work and where you can be reached.
.
Sleeping and Rest Arrangements
All children are required to nap or rest. Each child has his/her own bed linens. Infants and toddlers sleep in a port-a-crib and the older children have a cot or mat. Please do not schedule drop off or pick up times between 12:30 and 3:00, as it is disruptive to other children napping and your own child’s nap schedule.
Meals
I am enrolled in the Child Food Care Program. Children are not forced to eat, but are encouraged to try what is on their plate. Please feed your child before bringing them to care, if they miss a mealtime. I will not allow food or drink brought from home. There will be times (birthdays, holidays) that special treats may be brought, as long as there is enough for everyone and I know about it ahead of time. Meals are usually served during the following times:
Breakfast 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Lunch 11:30 a.m. - 12:00p.m.
Snack 3:15 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
Address and Phone Changes
Any changes in personal or work address and phone numbers must be given to the provider as soon as possible. Name and phone numbers of emergency contacts must also be kept current.
Non-Discrimination
I do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin, religion, or disability.
Child Abuse
I am required by law to report any sign of neglect or abuse of the children and will do so promptly. The provider is liable as a daycare provider for this responsibility. This includes failure of the parent to place a child in a car safety seat.
Fire and Storm Drills
I am required to do monthly fire and storm drills. Emergency escape routes are posted in the home.
No Smoking Policy
State law prohibits smoking in the home during daycare hours. No one smokes in the home at any time.
Toilet Training
I will be happy to help with this process at an appropriate age (at least 24 months). The parent must bring THREE sets of clothing during this process. We will discuss this procedure more at that time.
Emergency Contacts
Your child will only be released to anyone other than you, if their name appears as an emergency contact. In case of emergency by the parent, a phone call will suffice as long as the person picking up shows picture identification. If I am unable to reach you in case of emergency an emergency contact will be called.
Substitute Provider
My mother-in-law, Bonnie, is the substitute provider. She will be used in the event of an emergency or other appointment that I may have. She has taken all of the current trainings required by state law, including CPR. You are responsible for back up care in the case I (or my family) am ill or have an emergency where the substitute is unable to provide care.
Pets
I have a dog named Oscar. He is a cocker spaniel. He has been around the children since he was a puppy and is very good with them. He is a part of our family and is good for the children to be around. Oscar is up to date on all his shots and has been de-wormed.
Grievance Procedure
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the care that is being provided to your child please feel free to discuss this with me.
Insurance
I have liability insurance for daycare with State Farm Insurance.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
I prohibit substitutes, helpers, and volunteers, when directly responsible for caring for the children, from abusing prescription medication or being in ant manner under the influence of a chemical that impairs the individual’s ability to provide care. I will train all people working with the children about this policy.
Discipline
The state prohibits any form of corporal punishment (spanking, hitting, punching, slapping, etc.). If necessary I will redirect your child or use a time out (no more than one minute per year of age) in the “thinking chair”.
Other Policies
1. When coming to drop off or pick up your child please park in the street. This allows
my family to come and go as needed. It also prevents chemicals from leaking on the
driveway.
2. Please remove your shoes and your child’s shoes at the door and leave them in the
foyer. If you prefer not to remove your shoes I will be glad to bring your child to
you at the door.
3. Please have your child dressed and ready to begin daily activities.
4. All of the doors will remain locked during business hours. This is to ensure the safety of your children. Please knock on the door when dropping off and picking up. Keep in mind that I may not get there right away as I am tending to children.
Transportation Agreement
You are responsible for transporting the child to and from daycare. I may on occasion transport the children for field trips, to the park, or any other activities. I have been trained in child safety belt class. Infants will be placed in a rear facing seat that will be provided by the parent. Toddlers will be in car seats that are forward facing, that I will provide. All other children will be buckled at all times.
________(Initial) I, the parent agree to the transportation of my child in the provider’s vehicle.
I have read and received a copy of these policies and agree to comply with all the terms herein.
